POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Manager at Ironsmith Fire plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing field crews involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler systems; as well as the in-house warehouse/fabrication process at the local level. To many inside and outside of our organization, this position will be viewed as the face of Ironsmith Fire. Therefore, upholding our core values is imperative as you will be leading by example. You will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations, while upholding our core values.
OBJECTIVES
  • Lead by example, embodying our core values.
  • Mentor and motivate field crews to ensure they adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and discipline.
  • Foster open and transparent communication channels within the team, promoting trust and collaboration.
  • Conduct one on one meetings and annual reviews for direct reports, communicating adjustments in performance that need to be made and working to understand the team member's goals to align with Ironsmith Fire's goals.
  • Communicate project goals, expectations, and timelines clearly to field crews, ensuring alignment and accountability through daily huddles with direct reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and sales team to develop detailed project action plans that prioritize safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Communicate, schedule, and coordinate with the customer's field team, as well as other trades, to ensure the overall success of the projects.
  • Monitor project progress closely, proactively addressing any issues or deviations from the plan to ensure timely completion.
  • Optimize resource allocation, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Hiring and terminating employees you will be overseeing, as needed.
  • Review and approval of the time sheets from all field team members being supervised by this position, directly and indirectly, on a weekly basis.
  • Work closely with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to support project schedules.
  • Monitor resource usage and expenses, implementing cost-effective measures to achieve project objectives within budgetary constraints.
  • Uphold our commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship by enforcing strict adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Implement corrective actions promptly to address any quality issues and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Prioritize safety above all else, fostering a culture of safety consciousness and accountability among field crews.
  • Collaborate with the EHS team to investigate safety incidents and near misses thoroughly, implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences and maintain a safe working environment (be preventative rather than reactive!).
  • Act as the primary point of contact for coordinating inspections with AHJ representatives.
  • Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are obtained in a timely manner and that projects comply with regulatory requirements
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with code enforcement officials to facilitate smooth project execution and address any compliance issues proactively.
  • Manage project costs and understand budgets, making adjustments to the company's Work in Progress report as needed, and communicating budget concerns with Account Managers.
  • Manage all tool allocation for the field teams under this position's supervision. (This includes, but not limited to, making sure all employees have the tools they need to effectively perform their job duties, overseeing any maintenance schedules for the tools, overseeing overall tool budget, etc.)
  • Embrace the Ironsmith Fire slogan of "OLD SCHOOL GRIT, NEW AGE EDGE". This includes having that old school work ethic, while embracing new technologies and devices that drive innovation and job optimization.
  • Report to Chief Operations Officer and/or Branch Manager with project updates - maximum bi-weekly intervals.

Job Requirements
COMPETENCIES
  • Proven track record of leadership and success in the fire protection industry.
  • Extensive experience in fire sprinkler system installation, maintenance, and repair, with a deep understanding of industry standards and regulations.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve excellence.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools for scheduling, budgeting, and reporting, as well as Microsoft office.
  • In depth knowledge of reading fire sprinkler shop drawings and general construction documents.
  • Certification or training in relevant areas such as NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and CPR/First Aid.
  • Clean Driving Record

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 15 years overall field experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position.
  • NICET Certification preferred, but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • In certain circumstances, it may be necessary to "hands-on" train others on how to properly install a fire sprinkler system and/or perform other tasks. The general superintendent should be able and fit enough to take on this responsibility.
  • General day to day requirements will include:
    • Lift and carry heavy material and equipment. (Up to 50 pounds)
    • Be able to work in hot and cold environments, depending on the seasons.
    • Walk multiple flights of stairs during inspections and job site visits.
