The Project Development Engineer will be responsible for identifying, scoping, and delivering projects that support the company's growth and operational excellence goals. This includes Management of Change (MOC) initiatives, intermediate sustaining capital projects, and optimization projects.

Working closely with internal business partners and external stakeholders, this role ensures that projects are not only executed on time and on budget but also aligned with business strategy, operational needs, and long-term value creation.

The ideal candidate is a strong relationship builder, an innovative problem-solver, and a proven project leader with experience in Engineering & Construction projects within the Oil & Gas industry.

A Day in The Life
  • Project Development - Partner with business leaders to translate operational and strategic needs into well-defined project scopes, objectives, deliverables and economics.
  • Project Management - Manage project budgets, scoped schedules, and resources, ensuring proactive tracking, forecasting, and reporting. Oversee execution and delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations in all project activities.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and opportunities, maintaining transparent communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate project handoff from construction/technical teams to Operations, ensuring readiness, training, and operational continuity.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams (Operations, Engineering, Finance, HSE) and external partners.
  • Complete project lookbacks to support continuous improvement.
  • Spend ~10% of time in the field with the ability to travel across AB, BC, SK, and North Dakota.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • 2-5 years' experience managing engineering-related projects in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • P.Eng., CET, EIT, or equivalent designation required.
  • Demonstrated success in managing projects up to $1MM.
  • Strong working relationship skills with Operations to drive project success.
  • Proven application of project management best practices and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written - with ability to produce clear, concise project documentation.
  • Ability to interpret engineered drawings, technical specifications, and contracts.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Assets

  • Strong technical foundation (e.g., process engineering, pump & process equipment, reservoir/downhole, pipeline hydraulics).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Field operations experience within Oil & Gas.
  • Business development experience, particularly in aligning technical solutions to business growth opportunities
