Job description

Requisition ID: 101241

Job Category: Commissioning

Location: Calgary, AB, Canada

Join a company that is passionately committed to the pursuit of a better world through positive change. With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. With practical solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable, we think globally while acting locally. Are you looking for an opportunity to join a diverse group of professionals who are committed to remaining exceptional? We look forward to hearing from you.

CORE brings together the necessary elements of a project to achieve nameplate value and deliver peak asset performance. We take a staged approach to verifying technical readiness and ensuring organizational preparedness, right up to achieving full operational capacity.

Our operations are organized into seven regions:

  • ECA: Eastern Canada
  • WCA: Western Canada
  • USA: United States
  • SAM: South America
  • AIM: Africa, India, and Middle East
  • EUR: Europe
  • AUA: Australia and Asia

Our culture is built on collaboration, technical excellence, and a commitment to shaping a better future. We take pride in our values and operate as a flat, connected organization where innovation and ownership are encouraged at every level.

Role Overview

We are conducting a global search for a Global Director of Asset Maintenance.

In this role, the Global Director of Asset Maintenance is accountable for defining and executing Hatch's global Asset Maintenance strategy, establishing technical excellence, governance, service offerings, methodologies, and delivery capabilities that support clients through the transition to operations phase of capital projects.

A critical expectation of the role is to champion Asset Maintenance as a critical component of successful project delivery, ensuring maintenance organizations, systems, work processes, spare parts, maintenance facilities, workforce capabilities, maintenance strategies, and asset data are established and ready to support safe, reliable and efficient operations at startup.

Asset Maintenance services are frequently delivered as an integrated component of Operational Readiness programs, ensuring maintenance readiness is embedded throughout the project lifecycle and integrated with commissioning, completions, and ramp-up activities. In other cases, Asset Maintenance services are delivered as standalone project-focused engagements.

Unlike traditional Asset Management advisory services that focus primarily on existing operations, organizational transformation, distressed assets, or operational performance improvement programs, the Asset Maintenance practice within CORE is principally focused on supporting greenfield developments and brownfield projects, helping clients successfully transition assets from project execution, through startup and ramp-up, into reliable and sustainable operations.

The Global Director will be responsible for ensuring alignment between Asset Maintenance and Hatch's broader CORE service lines, including Operational Readiness, Commissioning, Completions, and Ramp-up, delivering integrated solutions that support clients across the entire path to operations.

We are looking for professionals who think and act like owners, thrive on creating new approaches and improving processes, and can bridge technical execution with strategic foresight to deliver exceptional client value. Most importantly, you will inspire, develop and lead our teams with a focus on developing future great asset maintenance professionals, sustaining the growth of our expertise for decades to come.

Candidates must be willing to travel to meet teams and clients including remote project sites as required, and participate in site assignments, sometimes requiring fly-in/fly-out arrangements for periods of time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Define and lead the global strategy for Asset Maintenance across all regions and market sectors.
    • Provide strategic leadership for greenfield and brownfield project delivery by shaping the vision, direction, and standards for maintenance excellence, reliability improvement, maintenance readiness, asset strategies, planning and scheduling, work management, and overall asset performance.

    • Champion Asset Maintenance within Hatch and externally, through thought leadership, increasing awareness, capability, and integration across disciplines and business units.

    • Establish technical excellence programs, quality assurance processes, and knowledge-sharing mechanisms across the global practice.

    • Develop scalable service offerings that allow Asset Maintenance expertise to be effectively embedded within broader Hatch's project delivery programs.
    • Ensure maintenance requirements are incorporated into project development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Project Support
    • Provide governance and expert support to major greenfield and brownfield projects globally.
    • Conduct reviews, readiness assessments, maturity evaluations, and assurance activities to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide expert guidance on the maintenance aspects of operating strategies, maintenance workforce development, organizational design, spares strategy and demand management processes, work management processes, maintenance facilities, and operational handover requirements.

  • Digital & Data Leadership
    • Define Hatch's global strategy for maintenance-related digital solutions and data-driven performance improvement.
    • Work in collaboration with the Digital group to provide services to clients with regards to the effective implementation and optimization of CMMS, EAM, Asset Performance Management (APM), and maintenance analytics solutions.

    • Support the growth of integrated CORE opportunities involving Operational Readiness, Commissioning, Completions, Ramp-up, and Asset Maintenance services.
  • People Leadership & Talent Development
    • Develop and maintain competency frameworks, career paths, training programs, and capability-building initiatives.
    • Mentor Asset Maintenance professionals and support the development of future technical and business leaders.
    • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Support recruitment, succession planning, workforce development, and global resource optimization.
    • Promote a culture where Asset Maintenance excellence is recognized as a critical contributor to successful project startup and sustainable operations.
  • Stakeholder & Client Engagement
