Job description

This role is eligible for our hybrid work model: Two days in-office.

Development Manager (Full Stack)

Why This Job's a Big Deal

As a leader within our Growth organization, you will own the engineering strategy and execution for the Messaging team - a critical platform that powers how Priceline communicates with its customers across email, SMS, and push channels. Sitting within the Trip Management & Loyalty group, your team is responsible for the full messaging lifecycle: from subscriber opt-in and preference management, to real-time notification delivery, templating, relay, and deliverability insights.

You will lead a full-stack engineering team (Java and Node.js backend, Node/React frontend) building and scaling a suite of microservices that handle millions of messages. Your work directly shapes the reliability, personalization, and compliance of every communication Priceline sends to its customers.

In This Role You Will Get To

  • Lead & Mentor: Manage a high-performing team of 4 FTE Engineers, providing coaching, performance management, and career development.

  • Drive hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development to build deep engineering talent.

  • Technical Execution: Maintain 20% hands-on involvement through code reviews, governance, and technical direction.

  • Platform Innovation: Building a reliable, Priceline-first messaging toolkit with reusable common components and a non-technical stakeholder editor experience.

  • Leverage AI to intelligently classify and block off-brand or non-critical email communications.

  • Expand customer opt-in channels (email and SMS) across Hotel, Air, and mobile product surfaces.

  • Operational Excellence: Enforce SDLC discipline, including 2-week sprints, grooming, retrospectives, and demos.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Collaborate with peer engineering teams in Trip Management & Loyalty and across Priceline's broader platform to drive cross-system integrations.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience, with a proven track record of hiring, mentoring, coaching, and performance management of full-stack engineering teams.

  • Full-Stack Expertise: Strong backend proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with solid Node.js experience. Frontend familiarity with front-end frameworks like React.js.

  • Distributed Systems: Proven experience designing and scaling high-throughput, event-driven systems using Kafka, REST, and GraphQL.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Comfortable with GKE, GCP services (Firestore, CloudSQL, GCS, BigQuery), CI/CD pipelines, and Git.

  • Vendor Integrations: Experience managing or integrating with third-party messaging platforms (e.g., email delivery providers, SMS gateways, marketing automation tools).

  • AI/ML Awareness: Familiarity with integrating ML-based scoring or classification services into production systems is a plus.

  • Illustrated history of living the values necessary to Priceline: Customer, Innovation, Team, Accountability and Trust.

  • The Right Results, the Right Way is not just a motto at Priceline; it's a way of life. Unquestionable integrity and ethics is essential.
