Position Summary:
This role represents a unique opportunity to help shape the future of transportation technology by connecting customers with innovative automation, SCADA, and digital solutions that improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of critical rail infrastructure.
A highly motivated and results-oriented Business Development Manager (BDM) responsible to accelerate growth within the North American passenger rail and transit market. This is a hunter-focused, individual contributor role responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities that align with Willowglen’s transportation strategy. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of the passenger rail ecosystem, including transit authorities, OEMs, EPC firms, consultants, and key industry stakeholders. They will combine strategic business development expertise with a solid understanding of operational technology (OT), SCADA, automation systems, data collection, and Industrial IoT (IIoT) solutions.
The ideal candidate is a proven relationship builder, skilled communicator, and relentless opportunity creator who can independently drive pursuits while coordinating cross-functional teams to secure complex, multi-million-dollar projects.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Development
  • Grow and advance Willowglen’s transportation sales pipeline through proactive identification and qualification of greenfield and brownfield opportunities.
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans focused on key transit agencies, rail operators, OEMs, EPCs, and consulting organizations.
  • Drive early customer engagement and influence project requirements through a consultative, value-based selling approach.
  • Position Willowglen as a trusted partner by articulating our differentiated capabilities, proven experience, and long-term value proposition.
Market Development & Industry Intelligence
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer priorities, industry trends, funding initiatives, procurement strategies, and competitive dynamics.
  • Gather and share actionable market intelligence related to:
  • Transit authorities and rail operators
  • OEM and EPC relationships
  • Upcoming projects and capital programs
  • Competitive positioning
  • Emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Identify strategic partnership opportunities that strengthen Willowglen's position within the transportation sector.
Relationship Management
  • Establish and maintain executive-level, commercial, and technical relationships with:
  • Transit authorities
  • Passenger rail operators
  • Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
  • Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) firms
  • Consultants and industry influencers
  • Serve as a trusted advisor throughout the customer engagement lifecycle.
  • Capture and communicate the Voice of the Customer (VOC) to internal stakeholders.
Technical & Commercial Leadership
  • Advocate for Willowglen solutions and influence specifications related to SCADA, automation, data collection, communications, and operational technology systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Delivery, Product Management, and Executive Leadership teams to develop winning pursuit strategies.
  • Lead customer presentations, workshops, and industry speaking engagements with both technical and executive audiences.
  • Support proposal development, commercial negotiations, and contract closeout activities.
Corporate Leadership & Culture

  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and customer success.
  • Act as a market ambassador for Willowglen at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.

Key Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of business development, sales, or account management experience within the passenger rail, transit, or transportation sector.
  • Demonstrated success identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities.
  • Established network of industry contacts within North American passenger rail and transit markets.
  • Strong understanding of complex infrastructure projects and public-sector procurement processes.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and opportunity management capabilities.
  • Traveling required for this role: 50%
Nice to have:
  • Knowledge of SCADA, automation systems, operational technology (OT), communications networks, data acquisition, and Industrial IoT solutions.
  • Experience working with transit authorities, rail operators, OEMs, EPCs, and systems integrators.
  • Familiarity with large-scale transportation infrastructure programs and digital transformation initiatives.
Base salary: $100,000 annually, plus variable compensation
