Job description

Job Title:            Operations Associate (Year-Round)

Report to:           Director of House in the Wood 

Compensation:  $40,000 to $50,000 + Comprehensive Benefits (Adding $12,000 to $15,000 in additional employer-paid value)

Status:                Full-Time 

Location:            Delavan, Wisconsin (On-Site – Housing not provided)

House In The Wood, operated by Northwestern Settlement, is a premier 23-acre residential camp located on the beautiful shores of Lake Delavan, Wisconsin. Our mission is to serve youth from under-resourced communities by providing transformative outdoor experiences that foster leadership, confidence, and resilience. Through our intentional Summer Camp, Outdoor Education, and Leader In Training (LIT) programs, we utilize immersive, nature-based learning to actively disrupt generational poverty.

As the Operations Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless daily execution of our camp facilities and programming. This year-round position blends hands-on logistical coordination, proactive facility maintenance, and essential administrative support. Working closely with leadership, your efforts will directly shape a safe, high-functioning, and welcoming environment for our campers, staff, and seasonal guests.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilities & Maintenance Management
    • Conduct routine inspections of camp buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.
    • Execute preventive maintenance schedules and prioritize facility improvements.
    • Troubleshoot, log, and resolve work requests submitted through the email ticket system. 
  • Vendor & Compliance Oversight
    • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for emergency repairs and routine servicing.
    • Ensure complete alignment with the Wisconsin State Health and Safety Code.
    • Maintain facility compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation standards.
  • Event Logistics & Operations
    • Collaborate with program staff to execute setup and teardown for all scheduled events.
    • Maintain organized, clean, and safe camp facilities and communal spaces.
    • Track and monitor inventory levels for essential camp supplies and equipment.
    • Handle the procurement, ordering, and restocking of operating materials as needed. 

Qualifications:

  • Professional Experience
    • Demonstrated background in facilities management, logistics, operations, or event coordination.
    • Prior experience working within a camp, outdoor education, or non-profit setting is highly preferred. 
  • Skills & Competencies
    • Strong multitasking and organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage shifting priorities.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff, guests, and external vendors.
    • A self-motivated work ethic with the ability to drive projects independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment. 
  • Physical & Environmental Demands
    • Physical stamina to manage hands-on facility maintenance tasks, property upkeep, and event setups.
    • Comfort working outdoors across varying Wisconsin weather conditions and terrains.
  • Operational Commitments
    • Willingness to participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to respond to occasional facility emergencies.
    • Successful completion of a standard background check prior to employment.

Compensation & Benefits:
