Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role manages the general ledger, supervises accounting staff, supports the monthly close process, develops accounting policies and internal controls, and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Accounting Manager partners with leadership to provide financial analysis, improve accounting processes, and support the organization's strategic and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including general accounting and accounts payable functions.
  • Assist the Controller with the monthly close process and preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Conduct quarterly balance sheet and profit and loss fluctuation analyses.
  • Develop, review, and recommend accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist with grant reconciliations and patient revenue accounting.
  • Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audits.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual tax filings.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and resolve financial inquiries.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience required.
  • Eight (8) to fifteen (15) years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit healthcare environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge Accounting System preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
