About the Role:

We are hiring an Accounting Manager to join our team. The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations for a fast-paced, multi-site contract security company. This is a hands-on role within a lean accounting function, requiring a high level of ownership, organization, and attention to detail.


This position will work closely with ownership and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, billing, payroll accounting, and compliance. While this role does not begin as a leadership or executive position, there is opportunity for expanded responsibility over time based on performance and company needs.


The ideal candidate is comfortable personally performing accounting tasks while improving processes and supporting operational decision-making.


Scope of Responsibility

  • Own day-to-day accounting operations and related financial processes
  • Operate as an individual contributor with end-to-end responsibility for assigned functions
  • Support ownership and leadership with accurate financial information
  • Identify process improvements and efficiencies
  • Manage priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations (Hands-On)

  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting, and general ledger activities
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

Billing, AR & Revenue Tracking

  • Prepare and manage client billing and collections
  • Track contract-based revenue and support proper revenue recognition
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies with Operations
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up as needed

Payroll & Labor Cost Support

  • Support payroll accounting in a labor-intensive, multi-site environment
  • Reconcile payroll to schedules and billing
  • Assist with tracking overtime and labor costs

Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting Support

  • Assist with budget preparation and forecasting
  • Prepare regular financial reports and variance summaries
  • Provide financial data and insights to support operational decisions

Accounts Payable & Purchasing

  • Process vendor invoices and manage payment schedules
  • Ensure proper approvals and documentation
  • Support vendor setup and basic procurement controls

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and efficiency
  • Maintain and update accounting and payroll systems
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy across financial data

Compliance & Recordkeeping

  • Support compliance with accounting standards and labor requirements
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records
  • Handle confidential financial and employee information with discretion

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4-6+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Demonstrated success in hands-on accounting roles within small teams or lean environments
  • Experience in service-based, contract-driven, or labor-heavy industries
  • Strong working knowledge of AR/AP, payroll accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and revenue recognition
  • Proven ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, multi-site environment

Preferred:

  • CPA or equivalent certification
  • Experience in contract security, staffing, or facilities services
  • Experience improving or streamlining accounting processes in growing organizations
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, Paylocity, scheduling software, or similar systems
