Job description

Purpose

The Manager of Data Engineering leads one of the Data Insights teams (Data Platforms, Data Analytics, etc.) and is responsible for delivering enterprise-wide data, business analytics and data science functions and connecting business needs with supporting technology.  These teams ensure that all data across the enterprise are well defined, of high quality, available to all necessary business and technology users, and are easily used and understood.  Additionally, these teams provide expertise in reporting, business intelligence, data science, data engineering and integration, and data quality improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead one of the Data Engineering teams (Data Insights or Data Platforms) to provide reporting and business intelligence/analytics functions to the enterprise and ensure optimal user experience in obtaining and analyzing data
  • Measure the quality and effectiveness of the analytics environment and tools, and ensure optimal usability, performance and availability

  • Assist in the delivery of an enterprise data pipeline to improve access to real/near-real-time data across the enterprise

  • Partner with Enterprise Architects to deliver multi-year analytics strategy, providing roadmaps and investment plans for all data-related capability

  • Partner with the security and risk teams to ensure secure, compliant analytics and reporting environments

  • Partner with the enterprise technology function to ensure effective and efficient operation of all environments

  • Partner with the data platforms team to migrate reusable assets and key metrics back into enterprise data platforms to support automated and dependable reporting and analysis

  • Foster continuous process improvement within the Data Insights organization and functions  

  • Cultivate strong relationships with all stakeholders of the insights and key business teams  

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related field of study
  • 3-5 years IT experience

  • 3-5 years of experience delivering high-profile projects in a complex enterprise environment

  • 3-5 years developing and delivering data and analytics systems or data warehouses

  • 3-5 years leading teams

  • Experience with big data tools and environments and data science capabilities preferred.

  • Experience integrating data in diverse technical environments

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of financial models and budgeting

  • Experience in measuring and communicating the value of analytics

  • Expertise in measuring, managing, and communicating system total cost of ownership

  • Experience in multiple enterprise environments, industries and development methodologies

Physical Requirements

  • Some travel required depending on role which may include weekends and evenings, as needed
  • Required to tour retail stores and may spend long periods of time standing or walking

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment

  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal

  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday

  • Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
