Job description

Job Description

Operational Technology Engineer. Brief description: Design, implement, and maintain Distribution Management System (DMS), SCADA, Outage Management System (OMS), and related operational technology (OT) platforms that monitor and control the transmission and distribution (T&D) network for DP&L and IPL. These systems are critical to safe, reliable electric grid operations. The role requires broad knowledge across hardware and software, T&D operations, networking, firewalls and cybersecurity, power system modeling, and remote field devices, spanning both modern and legacy technologies and supporting the AES Digital Strategy. Configure, install, operate, and maintain mission-critical OT systems to ensure reliable grid operations. Develop and maintain data models that support advanced ADMS power system applications. Configure and support advanced applications such as Distribution Power Flow (DPF), Fault Location, Isolation & Service Restoration (FLISR), and Volt/VAR Control (VVC). Integrate Geographic Information System (GIS) data by extracting, translating, and loading network models into the ADMS. Provide cross-functional support for multiple OT applications. Support 24x7 operations for systems used by T&D field, engineering, planning, reporting, and dispatch teams. Partner with users to apply technology that improves business processes, protects critical assets, and enhances customer service. Provide technical support and troubleshooting to resolve issues efficiently. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and external partners to share information, advise on projects, resolve issues, set priorities, and deliver work within schedule and budget. Create and maintain diagrams and documentation for current-state and future-state OT configurations. Evaluate vendor products and services for applicability to OT hardware, software, networks, and related systems. Serve as a technical subject-matter expert for solution design, development, testing, and deployment of new capabilities and significant enhancements. Monitor applicable federal, state, and local requirements and support compliance so systems meet regulatory obligations. Contribute to the company technology roadmap and provide input to departmental budgeting. Participate in the OT support team’s on-call rotation. May provide functional leadership to field technicians, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience designing and implementing real-time T&D control systems.
  • Strong technical understanding of hardware, software, and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
