Purpose and Description:

The Director of Risk Management provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for the organizationโ€™s enterprise and operational risk management programs. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving risk management strategies that reduce loss exposure, promote a culture of safety, and support the organizationโ€™s financial and operational objectives.

The Director leads a team of risk management professionals, partners closely with claims, legal, finance, IT, and external vendors, and serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. This position blends strategic planning, dataโ€‘driven decisionโ€‘making, and handsโ€‘on leadership to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate current and emerging risks.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Management oversight, training, support, and performance evaluation of field-based risk management team
  • Detailed analysis of current and emerging program losses to establish focused risk management strategies at the program and individual client level supporting a dual partnership philosophy.
  • Creation of risk management training and advisory resources targeting loss exposures.
  • Compliance with contractual service obligations
  • On-going communication with Claim department to conduct root cause and after-action investigation of significant losses.
  • Annual creation of Client Action Plan roster.
  • Oversight of key processes and deliverables โ€“ Safety Committee meetings, action plans, Builders Risk inspections, training modules, DLS/OSHA compliance, client reward and grant opportunities, client services, and on-site inspections and surveys.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Reinsurance โ€“ quantify risk management initiatives and results in support of reinsurance negotiations.
  • Analytic Reporting โ€“ monthly creation and report out of program results to program leadership and reinsurance broker.
  • Administration of vendor programs โ€“ data accumulation, property valuations, and sensor deployment.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Safety, Insurance, or a related field.
  • Progressive leadership experience in risk management, insurance, safety, or loss control.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing complex, multiโ€‘faceted risk programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and drive strategic decisions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience advising senior leadership.
