Operations Management Program
Your main responsibilities
The Operations Management program is a structured, 12-month development experience that combines formal training with immersive, hands-on field exposure. The program is designed to build a strong pipeline of Schindler's most critical operational leadership roles, by equipping participants with the technical knowledge, business acumen, and leadership capabilities required to succeed.
Participants gain practical experience in the field, developing a deep understanding of Schindler's products, services, and customers. Throughout the program, participants work closely with Area, Territory, and local leadership, including a dedicated mentor, to learn how to effectively manage the maintenance and repair of elevators, escalators, and moving walks.
In addition to field experience, the development program includes a structured curriculum delivered through in-person training, eLearning modules, and cohort-based sessions. Core focus areas include safety, product knowledge, resource planning, leadership, technician development, and financial acumen.
The program is divided into three distinct "phases" with specific learning objectives set for each phase. Upon completion of the program, participants MUST be open to relocating to other locations within the local territory should a permanent, full-time Field Superintendent position not be available at their host training location near time of graduation.
Phase Overview and Descriptions
Phase 1 - Orientation and Introduction to Schindler (approx. 3 months):
• Attend 3-day in-person program kickoff and orientation in US Headquarters located in Morristown, NJ
• Participate in "EI Deliver", an eLearning training program to gain an overall understanding of the service business • Gain visibility into what leadership looks like at Schindler through "New Leader Voyage" program
• Understand the basics of the Field Superintendent role and how it fits into Schindler's other departments
• Conduct "ride-alongs" with local Superintendents to interact with technicians onsite.
Phase 2 - Technical Field Immersion (approx. 3 months):
• Participant will be granted a temporary union card to work under the direction of an Elevator Union Mechanic
• Work onsite assisting with elevator and/or escalator service/repair or installations dependent on business line function
• Improve practical knowledge of safety procedures, hazard recognition and utilization of Personal Protective Equipment
Phase 3 - Supervision, Quality and Compliance (approx. 6 months):
• Meet the local area Field Quality Excellence team to job shadow and gain better understanding of their function
• Acquire focused knowledge surrounding auditing, testing, installation and maintenance safety and code compliance
• Manage limited workforce in controlled local environment to gain hands-on management experience
• Performance Evaluations provided by Branch & Area management team
• Consider placement opportunities upon graduation of program based on local, territory or national vacancies
What you bring
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or other relevant field of study preferred
• Candidates MUST be open to relocation (company-assisted) to select cities upon completion of the program
• Previous military or other leadership experience is highly desirable
• Prior work experience or internships in construction, service/maintenance or related industry a plus
• Strong customer service, organizational and communication skills
• Affinity for understanding technical/mechanical systems
