Job description

Assembly and Machining Line Leader (Flex and Standard Roles)

This role leads a production line on the manufacturing floor, ensuring that daily operations run safely, efficiently, and in the correct order of priority. You will work 100% at the line in a highly automated, fast-paced factory, coordinating people, parts, and processes across departments such as materials, logistics, warehouse, aluminum, caliper machining, and caliper assembly. As a working line leader, you will balance hands-on production work with leadership responsibilities, including training, quality checks, and continuous improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a production line, acting as the primary point of contact for daily operations on the floor.
  • Work 100% at the line in a hands-on capacity, supporting production activities and filling in on the line as needed when staffing is short.
  • Coordinate and prioritize production orders, deciding which parts run in what sequence to meet customer and internal priorities.
  • Use lineside boards to plan and communicate the daily schedule, run lineside meetings, update schedules, and track completion of runs.
  • Ensure the line has the correct parts and materials for each run, and pull parts for the team or line when required.
  • Oversee and participate in the training of new employees, providing ongoing coaching and support for existing team members.
  • Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and promote a safe working environment at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding staffing needs, production status, and any issues affecting the line.
  • Maintain clear communication between shifts by attending shift handoff meetings and providing accurate updates on line status and priorities.
  • Monitor and address employee or associate issues on the line and escalate concerns to supervisors as appropriate.
  • Perform line checks using gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Ensure the team follows FIFO (first in, first out) processes for materials and products.
  • Support and drive implementation of process improvements, continuous improvement initiatives, and 5S practices on the line.
  • Enter production and operational data into computer systems, including systems such as Leading to Lean or similar ERP tools.
  • For flex positions, cover any position on the line as needed, including general associate, machine operator, and line leader roles to support call-off coverage.
  • Oversee assembly lines in a clean-room type environment, including use of hair nets, beard nets, and white lab coats when required.
  • Oversee machining areas with CNC machines, ensuring safe and efficient operation in a high-automation environment.
  • Participate in orientation and training on first shift, then transition to assigned shift while maintaining consistent performance and leadership.
