Job description

Account Manager

Location: Remote — must reside in or near NYC
Travel: Approximately 25%, or as needed to support the assigned sales territory
Position Type: Outside Sales

OOCL is seeking an outside salesperson to support business development and customer relationship management within the NYC tristate area market and surrounding sales territory. OOCL offers the opportunity to represent a respected global brand while building meaningful customer partnerships and contributing to the growth of our Marketing & Sales organization.

The Account Manager is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, growing existing customer relationships, developing territory sales plans, and supporting revenue growth within the ocean transportation and logistics industry. The Account Manager will work cross-functionally with internal teams to deliver responsive, value-driven solutions and a strong customer experience.

Account Manager Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the assigned sales territory.
  • Maintain and grow existing customer accounts through regular communication, customer meetings, and business reviews.
  • Develop and execute sales plans focused on revenue growth, customer value, and contribution improvement.
  • Support bids, pricing discussions, customer proposals, and contract opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Trades department (pricing/rates), Customer Service department, Operations department, and the Sales department.
  • Monitor market conditions, customer needs, and competitive activity to support sales strategy.
  • Adhere to OOCL’s competition compliance policies and procedures in all business activities.
  • Represent OOCL professionally in customer-facing and industry-related interactions.

Account Manager Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of sales experience in ocean transportation, steamship, freight forwarding, logistics, or a related transportation industry.
  • Prior outside sales, territory sales, or account management experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%, or as needed.
  • Bachelors degree or higher level of education.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Must reside within in the NYC tristate area.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization, planning, and prioritization abilities.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in a remote/outside sales environment.

All employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and MVR approval.


The annualized base salary for this position ranges from $95,000.00 to $107,000.00 excluding fringe benefits.  If hired at OOCL, the final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience.  In addition to those factors, we also consider internal equity as part of any final offer.  Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.  All full-time employees enjoy these outstanding benefits, while in a safe, friendly, clean, business casual office environment.
