DescisiveInstinct is looking for a Systems Engineer, also known as a lead systems analyst or a network engineer with programming expertise, is an IT professional who designs, integrates, and maintains secure, reliable infrastructures that combine networking and software solutions. This position, based in the San Diego area, supports critical base operations and requires on-site work.
 
Salary Range:  $108K-153K
 
Systems Engineer oversees the development and support of hybrid environments that connect enterprise networks, web-based applications, and hardware systems from initial specifications to final rollout and ongoing maintenance. These solutions often include complex infrastructures that support cloud services, data communications, automation, and secure web applications. The engineer is responsible for integrating network operating systems, routing and switching protocols, application services, and hardware devices, while also leveraging light coding skills (such as Python, PowerShell, or similar) for automation, scripting, and efficiency improvements.
Duties typically include managing the lifecycle associated with building and supporting resilient LAN, WAN, WLAN, VoIP, and hybrid cloud networks, including: specification, design, configuration, coding/scripting, testing, optimization, and maintenance.
Network and systems engineering is like putting together a puzzle, aligning diverse technologies, protocols, and applications into one unified system. Engineers in this role must balance the "big picture" of a project with its technical execution while considering factors such as cost, schedules, scalability, performance, and compliance requirements.
Requirements (Must-Have):
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in network and systems engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (examples: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering).
  • U.S. citizenship (required to work on base).
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site in San Diego.
  • Strong background in LAN/WAN/WLAN/VoIP design, configuration, and support.
  • Experience with network operating systems, routing and switching protocols, and hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and light coding/scripting (Python, PowerShell, or similar) for automation and system integration.
  • Knowledge of testing, optimization, and maintenance best practices for enterprise networks and hybrid systems.
