Job Title: Unit Secretary

Location: Community Medical Center

Department Name: RDU-Emergency Dept

Shift: Evening

Pay Range: $17.62 - $19.57 per hour

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Unit Secretary assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing diversified secretarial duties. These duties include but are not limited to: filing, document storage and retrieval, reception, typing, routine record keeping, maintaining supplies and equipment, maintaining monthly statistics. 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma

Preferred:

  • Computer Skills (ie Word, Excel, Windows)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous unit secretary or medical office experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time, Evenings
  • 3pm-11pm, Monday-Friday
  • Every other weekend

Essential Functions:

  • Interacts with patients and families to help facilitate high quality patient care
  • Communicates and collaborates with hospital staff, physicians, and medical offices to develop and maintain procedural schedules
  • Answers phones promptly and relays information to appropriate person
  • Assembles and disassembles designated charts appropriately
  • Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues
  • Keeps medical records complete and in order
  • Maintains unit supplies at appropriate par levels
  • Maintains communication with Bed Controller and cooperates with room assignments
  • Performs required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge
  • Reviews charts for needed forms. Attaches all diagnostic reports to chart.
