An Operating Room Graduate Nurse Residency is a specialized training program designed for newly graduated nurses who want to pursue a career in the operating room (OR). This residency provides structured education, hands-on experience, and mentorship to help nurses transition into the perioperative nursing role. Participants learn about surgical procedures, patient safety, aseptic techniques, and teamwork in the OR setting. The program typically includes both classroom instruction and clinical rotations under the guidance of experienced preceptors. This residency helps new nurses build confidence and competence in the operating room environment.

What can I expect from the structure and support provided in an operating room graduate nurse residency program?

Most Operating Room Graduate Nurse Residency programs offer a structured blend of classroom instruction, simulation labs, and supervised clinical rotations within surgical settings. You can expect to work closely with experienced preceptors and multidisciplinary teams, gradually increasing your responsibilities as you gain confidence and mastery of perioperative practices. Regular feedback, mentorship, and skills assessments are provided to help you transition from graduate nurse to competent OR nurse.
