Job Title: Certified Surgical Technologist

Description:
Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique.
Maintains asepsis and anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed.
Actively participates in patient care and safety.
Utilizes Operating Room supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the Operating Room staff.
Follows Infection Control policies and procedures.
Demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
Assists the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments during procedures.
Anticipates the surgeon's needs for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
Maintains an organized operative field by keeping instruments clean and in their proper place.
Keeps an accurate count of sponges, tapes, needles, dissectors, and instruments.
Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards.
Identifies conflicts or problems with supplies.
Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient.
Identifies potential hazards to the surgeon and supporting staff during preoperative checks of equipment.
Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemicals, or gases) within the Operating Room.
Utilizes experienced Operating Room staff as a resource.
Acts as a resource for new Operating Room personnel.
Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon.
Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
Expedites the effective and efficient turnover of the Operating Room between cases.
May take rotating call duty.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested.
