What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. In 2025, Aecon began the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.ย 

Job Summary

The STP Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the Separation & Treatment Plant to efficiently separate solids, oil, and contaminants from wastewater generated during construction and tunnelling activities. The role ensures safe operation, environmental compliance, and continuous plant availability to support site operations.

Key Responsibilities - Plant Operation

  • Operate and monitor separation and treatment units including settling tanks, separators, hydrocyclones, clarifiers, oil-water separators, and chemical dosing systems.
  • Control pumps, valves, mixers, and conveyors to maintain steady plant throughput.
  • Adjust flow rates, pressures, and dosing to optimize separation efficiency.

Monitoring & Quality Control

  • Monitor inlet and outlet water quality (pH, turbidity, suspended solids, oil content).
  • Take routine samples and maintain operational logs.
  • Ensure treated water meets discharge or reuse requirements.

Solids & Waste Handling

  • Manage sludge, separated solids, and oil waste.
  • Operate dewatering units and monitor cake quality.
  • Coordinate waste disposal as per environmental regulations.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Follow all site safety and environmental procedures.
  • Handle chemicals safely using proper PPE.
  • Prevent spills, overflows, and environmental incidents.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Report daily operations, downtime, and issues to the Supervisor.
  • Coordinate with TBM, slurry, dewatering, and site teams.
  • Support inspections by the client or authorities.

Effective May 1, 2025: $51,44/hr

Effective May 1, 2026: $52.80/hr

Effective May 1, 2026 $54.39/hr
