The Operating Room Equipment Technician plays a critical role in supporting surgical teams by maintaining, preparing, and troubleshooting medical equipment used in operating rooms. This position ensures that all surgical equipment is readily available, functioning safely and efficiently, contributing to optimal patient care and the smooth operation of surgical procedures. This position supports all ORs, is high volume, and fast paced. 

Minimum Required: High school diploma or GED. | LICENSE & CERTIFICATION: None. | Minimum Required: 3 years in a hospital or surgical environment. 

Equipment Setup, Operation, and Technical Support:

Perform complete pre-operative setup by cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and testing all operating room equipment to ensure functionality and readiness.

Prepare trauma operating rooms with required equipment, instrument sets, and sterile supplies for scheduled and emergent procedures.

Collaborate proactively with surgical teams to anticipate and fulfill equipment and supply needs, responding swiftly to urgent intraoperative requests.

Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions in real time to minimize surgical delays and ensure patient safety.

Facilitate on-time starts for first cases by ensuring ORs are properly equipped for the next day's elective schedule.

Provide training and education to surgical staff on proper use, handling, and basic troubleshooting of operating room equipment.

Serve as an equipment and supply runner during surgical procedures to support uninterrupted workflow.

Serve as a runner to retrieve unit beds, ensuring cleanliness of bed and linen to support patient throughput. 

Equipment Cleaning, Maintenance, and Compliance:

Clean, disinfect, and perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment following hospital protocols and manufacturer guidelines.

Maintain strict adherence to safety standards, infection control policies, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Coordinate with Environmental Services (EVS) by moving equipment to allow terminal cleaning of ORs and storage areas.

Return cleaned and disinfected equipment to proper locations upon completion of EVS terminal cleaning.

Inventory, Logistics, and Room Organization:

Support the Equipment Manager with inventory control, including tracking equipment availability, ordering replacement parts, and managing maintenance records.

Maintain accurate documentation of equipment usage, cleaning, repairs, and maintenance activities.

Stock and organize OR supplies such as gloves, masks, and linens to ensure consistent readiness.

Stock and organize positioning equipment and non-sterile supplies in the operating room. 

Stock and organize blanket warmers with blankets and Saline. 

Oversee the cleanliness and organization of equipment and supply storage rooms.

Transport specimens to pathology or the morgue and handle blood cooler delivery and returns to the Blood Bank as required.

Assist in transporting and positioning equipment such as stretchers, beds, and IV poles during patient transfers to the PACU or other units.

All other duties as assigned by my manager/leader
