Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (Orthopedic)About the Facility
  • Located in Milwaukee

  • 636-bed acute care hospital

  • Level III Trauma Center

  • Magnet-designated facility

  • Primary Stroke Center

  • Level III NICU

  • Advanced, high-volume surgical program


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room RN with a strong background in Orthopedic surgery. This role is ideal for a nurse who is confident circulating in a fast-paced OR environment and managing complex orthopedic cases.

โš ๏ธ Note: First-time travelers are not recommended and require supervisor approval.


Unit Overview
  • 21 Operating Rooms

  • 1:1 patient ratio

  • High-acuity surgical environment

  • Cross-training required across Main OR specialties


Case Types - Orthopedic Focus

Candidates must have strong experience circulating orthopedic cases, including:

  • Fractures

  • Anterior hip procedures

  • Total joint replacements

  • Orthopedic spine surgeries

  • Hand and podiatry cases

Equipment Experience:

  • Hanna Table (required)


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience

  • Strong orthopedic OR experience required

Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required


Required Skills
  • Proficiency in circulating orthopedic cases

  • Familiarity with OR workflows, sterile techniques, and patient safety protocols

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

  • Charge Nurse, Team Leads, Supervisors, and Manager

  • Collaborative interdisciplinary OR team


Technology & Equipment
  • EMR: EPIC

  • IV Pumps: Alaris

  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis


Floating
  • Cross-trained to:

    • Main OR specialties

    • Urology Center

  • No floating to other hospitals/sites


Orientation
  • 1-1.5 weeks (based on team and shift)


Scheduling
  • Shift Start Times: Variable (between 5:30 AM - 7:00 AM)

  • Weekend Requirement: Covered via call rotation

  • RTO: Subject to hiring supervisor approval


On-Call Requirements
  • Participation in call rotation (details provided during interview)


Additional Information
  • Scrubs: Provided by hospital

    • Scrub caps allowed (must be covered with surgical bouffant)

  • Parking: Free

    • Day shift: Detached lot (~2 blocks away)

    • PM shift: On-site lot

  • Amenities: On-site cafeteria and Starbucks

  • Call Rooms: Not available
