POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform all plant operational duties, predictive/preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment. This may involve exposure to varying climatic conditions, exposure to traces of treatment chemicals, sludge, water and wastewater.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ability to analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize operations 

  2. Understanding of safety, environmental, and industry standards to ensure compliance 

  3. Undertake inspections and evaluate process equipment performance to optimize efficiency and effectiveness in accordance with established procedures.

  4. Complete repairs as needed/as directed by Facilities manager

  5. Collect, maintain, transport samples and carry out various tests as required

  6. Maintain logs and records pertaining to equipment performance and conditions in accordance with established procedures.

  7. Perform housekeeping/janitorial duties.

  8. Undertake all assigned duties in a safe and professional manner, complying with established safety procedures and in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHIMS and all other applicable legislation.

  9. Perform other duties as may be assigned, which are related to Synagro Windsor operations and contract.

  10. Assist facility personnel in a variety of duties as required.       

  11. Load and transport sludge from Windsor sewage plants or WBPF site to assigned destination.

  12. Transport/unload/load tractor trailers on the WBPF site.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Clean drivers abstract with A/Z endorsement
  3. Experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
  4. Strong Emphasis on safety
  5. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  6. Comfortable with a fast-paced work environment
  7. Self-starter with the ability to work with limited supervision
  8. Excellent sense of urgency, work ethic and attendance record
  9. Able to sit, walk, stand, and/or drive for extended periods of time
  10. Able to work extended hours
  11. Able to work 8–12-hour shifts in a 24-hour 6-day/week schedule including holidays
  12. Lift up to 50lbs
  13. Able to read, write and speak English effectively
  14. A Canadian resident and/or legally allowed to work within Canada
  15. Ensure ongoing assessment of operating equipment during production and adjust as needed during operations
  16. Complete repairs as needed/as directed by Facilities manager
  17. Ability to analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize operations 
  18.  Understanding of safety, environmental, and industry standards to ensure compliance 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum high school diploma required, additional training in a process, chemical or mechanical program considered an asset 
  2. Operating years’ experience considered an asset and counted towards seniority 
  3. Biosolids knowledge preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to work varying shifts, overtime, holidays, on call duty and emergency call-ins 
  2. Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces utilizing ladders when necessary 
  3. Talking, Hearing, Seeing, Sitting, Standing, Walking, and Lifting up to 25 kgs. 
  4. Ability to access confined spaces for general cleaning and inspections 
  5. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions 
  6. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation 
  7. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to bio-solids
