About this position
The Operating Room Aide (ORA) assists with turnovers, stocking, delivery of supplies and equipment, cleaning and maintaining reusable items. The ORA role contributes to the success of surgical operations by enhancing patient flow.
Accountabilities:
• Assess department needs and ensures supplies are stocked. Including out of department supplies and anesthesia materials.
• Manage inventory of surgical tools and supplies, restocking supplies for the next case.
• Respond to room turnover requests quickly. Disinfect equipment, remove soiled linens and supplies, empty garbage.
• Complete end of day terminal cleans. Replenish supplies as needed.
• Check O2 tanks and replace as needed.
• Change used anesthesia circuit and supplies, restock if needed. Set up for next case.
• Handle and dispose of waste according to specific policies and procedures for bio-hazardous materials, sharps containers, and recyclable materials.
• Assist with transporting specimens, returning/obtaining blood products.
• Transport patient with another staff member when needed to facilitate flow within the OR.
• Assist with room set up by gathering necessary equipment for surgical case.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
• The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
• The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where it is deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.
Compliance
• Recognizes and complies with legal regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.
• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.
Requirements
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
Experience
• 2+ years of experience working within an operating room setting
• EVS experience working within an operating room setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to prioritze work while ensuring role expectations and duties are completely timely and accurately.
• Ability to effectively communicate and work in team environment.
• Ability to transport various equipment within the department.
