We are seeking experienced Steel Superintendents to join our nuclear maintenance, installations, and operations team. As a Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. The Steel Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all structural and miscellaneous steel activities on assigned construction projects. This role ensures steel operations are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. The Steel Superintendent coordinates field crews, subcontractors, and vendors while serving as the primary on-site leader for steel-related work.

Location

Positions are currently available in Aiken, SC, supporting active projects on active construction sites, as well as office locations. This is not a hybrid or remote position, reporting to a job site daily is the expectation.
This position is primarily field based on active construction sites and may involve extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, overnight, or weekends depending on project schedules.
Qualifications
  • 7-10+ years construction experience with preferably 3+ years being in a Superintendent capacity
  • Strong experience in safety, planning, steel sequencing, and erection, bolt-up work, and welding.
  • Union ironworker experience is desirable.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, or heavy construction projects.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit's policies, procedures and software programs.
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
Project & Field Operations
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all steel erection, fabrication, and installation activities
  • Develop and maintain short- and long-term work plans and look-ahead schedules
  • Coordinate sequencing with general contractors, project managers, engineers, and other trades
  • Ensure work is performed according to drawings, specifications, and safety requirements
  • Monitor productivity and resolve field issues to maintain schedule and budget

Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise foremen, ironworkers, welders, and field crews
  • Conduct daily jobsite meetings and toolbox talks
  • Enforce company policies, safety programs, and quality standards
  • Mentor field leadership and support workforce development

Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety procedures
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions immediately
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Participate in safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations

Quality Control
  • Ensure erection tolerances, bolting, welding, and inspections meet project and code requirements
  • Coordinate with inspectors and address non-conformance issues
  • Verify completion of punch-list items related to steel scope

Materials & Equipment
  • Coordinate delivery, staging, and storage of steel materials
  • Ensure cranes, lifts, and equipment are properly scheduled and utilized
  • Verify material quantities and resolve shortages or discrepancies

Communication & Reporting
  • Provide regular progress updates to project management
  • Maintain daily reports, schedules, and manpower tracking
  • Assist with change orders, RFIs, and field documentation
