Job description

Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.
Bald Mountain is an important contributor to the economy of northeastern Nevada and maintains a comprehensive environmental strategy including wildlife protection, habitat recovery and education.
Job Summary
The Senior Mine Engineer (Long Range) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the Life of Mine (LOM) plans and designs for Kinross Nevada open-pit operations. This role ensures long-term strategic plans are economically optimized, safe, and compliant with geotechnical and environmental standards. They work closely with technical services, geology, and site management to maximize shareholder value and operational performance. Qualified candidates may be eligible for both a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Mine Planning: Run pit optimizations and support mineral inventory reporting requirements, optimize mine plans, fleet sizing studies, create stack plans, and technical studies focused on asset optimization.
2. Design And Modelling: Create open pits, waste rock dumps, haul roads and stormwater drainages. Able to check block models using drill data, run statistics and create scripts preferred.
3. Scheduling and Economic Analysis: Integrates short-term plans into long-term, and life-of-mine plans. Perform excel level economic analysis. Support feasibility studies (NI 43-101) as required.
4. Reconciliation and Compliance: Analyzes and interprets mine plans to ensure alignment with financial, environmental and operational objectives. Perform reconciliation of actuals vs. planned production, updating plans to reflect reality while maximizing NPV.
5. Collaboration: Work with short range planners, environmental, exploration, metallurgy, geotech, maintenance, and leadership teams to ensure long term plans are technically sound.
6. Innovation: Researches information to support decision-making and improve processes, technologies or methodologies.
7. Safety and Mentorship: Contributes to safety culture, and the development of policies and practices. Must be willing to take on cross-rotation assignments within the Technical Services Group for personal development.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. B.S. Degree in Mining or related discipline.
2. 5 Years of experience in surface mining preferred.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and concepts of open pit mining engineering.
4. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
5. Working knowledge of computer-aided mine design and familiarity with one or more commercial software packages (MineSight, Deswik, Vulcan, Studio NPVS etc.)
6. Proficiency in MS Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
7. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) including presenting to senior leadership.
8. Technical writing abilities preferred.
9. Ability to learn quickly and to function within the physical demand requirements.
10. Understanding of Kinross' processes and corporate values is an asset.
11. Ability to work independently and as a member of the Engineering Team.
12. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
13. Requires valid driver's license.
