How do I become an online product tester?

To become an online product tester, you can sign up with reputable testing platforms that connect users with companies seeking feedback on websites, apps, or products. Typically, you need a reliable internet connection, basic computer skills, and the ability to follow instructions; some platforms may require demographic information or specific device access. Completing profile surveys and providing honest, detailed feedback are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Online User Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Online User Tester, you need keen observational abilities, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of usability principles, often supported by familiarity with digital devices and web navigation. Experience with usability testing platforms (such as UserTesting or TryMyUI) and the ability to record feedback using screen capture tools are typically required. Strong written communication, critical thinking, and reliability help testers provide clear, actionable feedback and meet tight deadlines. These skills ensure that user experiences are accurately evaluated and meaningful insights are delivered to improve digital products.

What is online user testing?

Online user testing is a process where individuals test websites, apps, or digital products remotely to provide feedback on usability, functionality, and overall user experience. Testers are given specific tasks and asked to record their thoughts, actions, and any issues they encounter. Companies use this feedback to identify problems, improve design, and ensure products meet user needs before launching to the public.

Does UserTesting actually pay?

UserTesting pays individuals who complete usability tests by providing feedback on websites and apps. Payments are typically made via PayPal or gift cards, and testers can earn around $10 to $60 per test, depending on the complexity and length of the task. Payment is usually received within a few days after completing the tests.

How do I become a user tester?

To become a user tester, you typically need to sign up on testing platforms or websites that connect testers with companies, complete a profile, and sometimes pass a sample test to demonstrate your ability to provide clear feedback. Basic computer skills and familiarity with online environments are often required, and some platforms may ask for demographic information or specific device access. Consistent participation and good communication skills can improve your chances of ongoing testing opportunities.

What does a typical day look like for someone working in online user testing?

A typical day in online user testing involves reviewing test instructions, completing assigned usability tasks on websites or apps, and providing detailed feedback through written responses or recorded videos. Testers often work independently and must manage their own schedules, as opportunities are typically offered on a per-project basis. Collaboration with project managers or test coordinators may occur to clarify requirements, but most communication is handled digitally. Attention to detail and clear, constructive communication skills are essential for providing valuable insights to clients.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology.

Come be a part of what's next. At Netflix, we have an insatiable desire to continually improve our products and deliver new experiences to delight and entertain our quickly growing membership. The Principal Product Manager - Games - Social Platform is a senior, cross-functional leader who will apply their strategic, analytical, and relationship-building expertise to develop and execute our roadmap for bringing our members together to play games via social experiences like online and co-op multiplayer, sharing, chat, and more.

What you will do: Own the games social platform strategy, developing products our first and third party game studio partners will use to connect members to each other, as well the expression of these social features within the Netflix apps themselves. Utilize consumer research, analysis, partner interviews, and user testing to advance our understanding about how social experiences for games will drive member joy. Drive strategic alignment across Netflix's Games and Product & Technology organizations about which social experiences we should enable, where we should enable them, and the impact we expect them to create.

Collaborate closely with engineers to execute on the development of back-end systems for game development partners and the tooling to enable them to provision and optimise those experiences. Own the games social experience for our members, bringing together teams from across the company to create a unified strategy and roadmap for enabling member-to-member relationships and communications. Collaborate with Games Leadership and Business Development Leads to identify opportunities to expand and accelerate the availability of our Social offerings through external partnerships.

Manage the risk assessment of social features and mitigation plan in partnership with Trust and Safety, Legal, and Player / Customer Support. You are the ideal candidate if: You are an experienced product manager & product leader, passionate about games and deeply familiar with gaming ecosystems and platforms. Your curiosity has made you a passionate expert in all things Gaming as both a player and a product developer.

You have demonstrated industry experience in the games industry and environment, its revenue streams, business models, industry trends, and the needs of both gamers and game developers. You possess deep awareness of the ways in which games facilitate and amplify strong social connections between players, and you have a strong perspective about the joy that social experiences can bring to players when done well (and the hazards they pose when done poorly). You understand the interplay between game-specific and platform social experiences, and can help partners on either side elegantly connect the two.

You think strategically and you prioritize ruthlessly. You excel at synthesizing market feedback and industry insights and identifying opportunities to shape product innovation. You partner well with data analysts, researchers, and product designers to clearly identify the highest value problems to solve for our members.

You communicate with exceptional clarity and thrive as a collaborator in highly cross-functional environments. You engender trust and exemplify leadership without authority. You build bridges between functions, teams, and stakeholders and can clearly define a product vision around which others rally to deliver a unified product.

You feel comfortable operating in a lean and nimble environment. You exemplify good judgment in identifying, prioritizing, and leading innovation projects. You are adaptable, empathetic, and future-oriented.

Challenges pique your curiosity and compel you to lean in. Requirements 10+ years of experience in product management or related business areas, with direct experience working on social products / systems in video games. A passion for enhancing the customer experience through data-driven insights and user feedback, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into intuitive and engaging solutions.

Proven ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and lead complex and highly impactful cross-functional projects from concept to completion Technical background or strong understanding of technical systems & platforms and the ability to communicate with and challenge both technical and non-technical audiences. Ambitious self-starter who deals well with ambiguity and a fast paced, multiple project environment A history of achieving product outcomes through user testing and data driven decision making. Experience translating UX testing and feedback into impactful new features Passion for the digital gaming space Does this sound uncomfortably exciting.
