Job description

Job Summary

Star Academy is seeking a Computer Science Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year to teach middle and high school students.

Responsibilities
  • Teach computer science to middle and high school students within a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, hands‑on lessons in computer science, programming, computational thinking, and emerging technologies.
  • Teach courses that may include introductory programming, advanced computer science, software development, artificial intelligence, robotics, data science, and AP Computer Science courses.
  • Prepare students for AP Computer Science A and other advanced computer science examinations.
  • Support students in developing coding, problem‑solving, algorithmic thinking, and software design skills.
  • Introduce students to modern programming languages, development tools, and industry‑standard practices.
  • Encourage creativity, innovation, and responsible use of technology.
  • Design and supervise computer science projects, coding challenges, hackathons, robotics activities, and technology competitions.
  • Instruct students in a clear and structured manner while maintaining high academic expectations.
  • Track and record student progress and maintain accurate records for report cards and parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student performance and academic development.
  • Provide additional academic support outside of class for students who need extra help or enrichment.
  • Build strong relationships with students and foster curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in technology‑related fields.
  • Participate in school academic initiatives, including STEM programs, competitions, and enrichment activities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Competencies Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Education, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of computer science concepts, programming, and software development.
  • Experience teaching in a classroom environment.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple academic responsibilities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment.
  • Passion for computer science education and student development.
Preferred:
  • Experience teaching AP Computer Science A.
  • Experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science, or engineering‑related programs.
  • Experience coaching students for programming competitions, robotics competitions, hackathons, or STEM events.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience.
  • An advanced degree: Master’s, Ph.D., or Ed.D.
