Job description

Job Purpose:

The Product Test Engineer is responsible for the testing of all devices built by and for Utility. The Product Test Engineer will be responsible for working with Engineering and Product Managment to create and maintain test plans which provide repeatable testing for validation of performance of the Utility portfolio of devices and services.

In addition, the Product Test Engineer will validate products designed and built by Utility meet the product requirements and are built to a high-quality standard.

This role ensures that all Utility devices and services meet the demand of our clients.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Work with Engineering and Product Managment to create Product Test Plans

Execute and own product testing to ensure devices meet minimum performance standards

Works closely with Utility Support and Client Satisfaction to help address and identify issues seen from Utility clients

Define product testing strategy and development of forward-looking testing methods

Translate product strategy into detailed testing requirements (Market Requirement Document / Product Requirement Document)

Schedule beta and pilot testing programs with pre-production minimum performance criteria

Identify areas for improvement to product line roadmaps based on interactions with client and support teams

Scope and prioritize testing activities based on business and customer impact

Collect, manage and maintain traceability of testing for all stakeholders across product releases

Serve as an in-house expert for Utility products. Be the go-to person for all functional issues and questions

Conduct technical product benchmarks and competitive analyses to feed marketing/sales activities

Keep abreast of the goings-on in the industry

Make creative recommendations to expand product base and vision


Knowledge and Skills:

Proven work experience in product testing product manager, 5-7 years relatable experence.

Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product testing throughout its lifecycle

Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization

Proven ability to develop product plans and effectively communicate recommendations to executive management

Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software, hardware and web technologies

Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job

Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority

Creative thinker with a vision

Sound judgement and good business acumen

Ability to quickly establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Excellent client-facing communication skills

Superb presentation skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills

Capacity to manage high stress situations


  • Supervisory Responsibility This position will have no direct supervision responsibilities.
  • Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an hybrid setting
  • Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional overtime.
