Job description

The City of Valdez Convention and Civic Center is hired a Movie and Event Service Tech to manage and promote the City's cinema operations and assist with event & facility support. Under general supervision, this position manages weekly cinema operations and supports facility event services with a focus on audio/visual technical skills. Duties include operating the cinema program, supervising part-time staff, assisting with event setup and teardown, and closing the facility during evening and weekend hours.

This fully benefited hourly position works a non-traditional but flexible schedule - 37.5 hours per week, typically Thursday - Monday to include evenings and holidays. One year of experience in sound reinforcement, theatrical lighting, technical theatre, convention center operations, or entertainment facility work. Must be 21 years of age. This position is open until filled, review of applicants is ongoing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Cinema Operations Oversee cinema program, daily operations, revenue handling, and part-time staff

Promote movie showings through advertising, social media, and partner collaborations. Maintain concession inventory, supplies, ordering, and restocking. Schedule and book films; maintain positive relationships with movie studios and meet studio requirements.

Manage online ticketing and membership accounts. Operate and troubleshoot cinema systems including audio/visual equipment, content management, show creation, and testing. Respond to cinema emails and social media inquiries.

Complete part-time staff scheduling and timekeeping. Perform related cinema support tasks as needed. Event & Facility Support Maintain facility readiness, cleanliness, and safety.

Assist management with administrative tasks. Train and oversee contract event staff; coordinate with caterers and vendors. Set up and tear down furniture, equipment, and audio/visual or lighting systems following approved layouts.

Provide basic A/V and theatrical lighting support with ability to operate systems after training. Monitor event activity, enforce policies, and ensure safe facility use. Perform general maintenance, routine inspections, and report issues.

Support other staff as needed. Maintain required certifications including UST and scissor-lift operation. Execute daily opening and closing procedures and secure the building.

Perform other duties as assigned. SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS Primarily works evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Regular schedule Thursday-Monday; hours vary based on events.

Frequently closes after midnight. Works a flexible schedule averaging 37.5 hours per week. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Knowledge of City policies, departmental procedures, and social media standards

Ability to work independently, follow directions, and learn on the job. Customer service skills; ability to assist clients and caterers with equipment. Basic understanding of lighting and sound plots and programming.

Strong teamwork, leadership, adaptability, and safety awareness. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Knowledge of: City and Department policies and procedures. Digital Cinema System setup and operation Professional sound reinforcement equipment and lighting equipment operation Projection equipment and concession stand equipment operation Equipment used for events Commercial kitchen equipment operation Skill in: Working independently and following directions.

Promoting work safety. Ability to assist caterers with equipment use. Ability to assist facility clients with equipment use.

Reading and executing complex lighting and/or sound plots, instrument scheduled and light & sound channel programming. Providing customer service and responding to public inquiries, maintain confidentiality. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work flexible hours and acquire technical skills as needed.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand/walk for long periods, and work in elevated spaces. Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and operate A/V equipment. Ability to read and communicate in English and set sound levels appropriately

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED. One year of supervisory experience. One year of experience in sound reinforcement, theatrical lighting, technical theatre, convention center operations, or entertainment facility work.

Must be 21 years of age. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Two years of technical A/V or theatre experience. Two years of convention center or entertainment facility experience.
