SUMMARY:
The content specialist/coach position facilitates learning gains with at-risk teenagers and ensures their success at earning a high school diploma. Instructors work in a blended, project-based learning educational setting providing online instruction, support, and assessment help in areas of certification and expertise with students guiding them in developing and completing curriculum projects that meet Michigan content expectations. In addition, collaboration will take place on a regular basis with other instructional staff. This instructional position is a part-time hourly position with flexible virtual scheduling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with at-risk middle and high school students.

  • Instruct in certified content areas online.

  • Provide virtual tutoring in various subjects and assisting students as needed using chat, videoconferencing and email.

  • Keep up-to-date with subjects that will be taught.

  • Develop and update curriculum.

  • Collaborate regularly with other staff members.

  • Attend required meetings, trainings and participate in professional development.

  • Maintain records (i.e., student work and learning plans).

  • Grade and guide student work.

  • Identify the interests and talents of the students to develop contexts in which they can expand their skills.

  • Encourage students to contribute to online learning communities and engage with the curriculum.
