EXPECTATIONS AND NATURE OF THE POSITION
Western Wyoming Community College (Western) invites applications for adjuncts for Instructor of Theatre. This position will consist of teaching no more than 9 credits per Fall/Spring semesters and no more than 6 credits per Summer semester on the campuses of Rock Springs and Green River, as well as from a distance or online via the institution's learning management system. Responsibilities will include supporting Western's Guiding Principles: Learning is Our Purpose, Students are Our Focus, Employees are Our Most Important Resources, The Community is our Partner, Adapting to Change Defines Our Future, and Ethical Standards Guide Our Actions; and upholding the mission of a comprehensive 2-year community college.
Successful candidates will teach courses in the accredited undergraduate Musical Theatre Program as needed/assigned, with a focus in Stage Make-Up; may teach in a variety of environments and modes: team-taught offerings, day offerings, evening offerings, online offerings, hybrid offerings, etc.; assess students in light of the institution goals, program goals, and course objectives; develop good working relationships with discipline-related professionals in the College's Service area; be active in one's field of expertise; have the ability to lift and/or move up 25 pounds on a regular basis.
It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual must follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE

1. Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses, including, but not limited to the following: Stage Make-Up, or other courses suited to the candidate's strengths.
2. Provides quality-learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of the course's standards and objectives.
3. States clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follows the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates appropriate Western Goals for Student Success into each course; evaluates students' performance in light of these objectives and criteria.
4. Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College's Learning Goals.
5. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail and calendar system, MyWestern, Canvas, and word processing; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
6. Orders the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
7. Refers students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Net Tutor, Library, Mustang Success, and Wellness and Accessibility.
8. Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard Western physical resources from unauthorized use. Maintains safe working conditions and practices.
9. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner
10. Completion of required workshops, course assessment, and evaluations as approved by School Chair
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities)
PREFERED ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • MFA or master's in Musical Theatre or Theatre.

OR
  • Master's degree in any related degree listed below with 18 graduate credits in theatre or related discipline (coursework must be relevant to the type of THEA course(s) being taught at Western).

ALTERNATE ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with 5 years' professional experience.

OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Musical Theatre or Theatre with 5 years' professional experience.

Equivalency Statement
For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)
โ€ข Two to Three years of documented experience teaching theatre or stage make-up at the collegiate level.
โ€ข Knowledge of concepts, technologies, principles and practices of the teaching of theatre or stage make-up at a post-secondary level.
โ€ข Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
โ€ข Demonstrated teaching excellence at a community college.
