Job Description:

Level 2 Learning Assistants assist student success in the College of Science in multiple settings.


60-75% - Working with students in group learning settings with LA Faculty present (ie: classrooms, help sessions, office hours, online)


15% - Preparing for facilitation by meeting with course faculty, reviewing/completing course materials, training for being an LA (one time orientation)


10-20% - Other duties (ie: independent office hours or review sessions, mentoring Level1 LAs, facilitating LA interviews or LA Program events such as LA orientation, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications:Successful completion of disciplinary courses (ie: PH 201, BI 221) or equivalent by start date.Successful completion of Learning Assistant Pedagogy Course or equivalent by start date
Prior COS Level 1 experience or equivalent
To become a College of Science Learning Assistant, students must also have applied and been accepted to become a Learning Assistant through the OSU
