Online Tutors focus on personalized student support, helping with specific subjects or skills, usually without formal teaching certifications. Both roles are vital in online education but serve different instructional needs.

What qualifications do I need to teach online instructor?

To become an online instructor, you typically need a relevant bachelor's degree or higher in the subject you wish to teach, along with teaching experience or expertise. Many platforms also require a teaching certification or credentials, and strong communication skills are essential for effective online instruction.

What is an online instructor?

Online instructors are educators who teach students through digital platforms, rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They design and deliver course materials, lead discussions, and assess assignments using online tools such as video conferencing, learning management systems, and forums. Online instructors may work for schools, universities, or private organizations, and often teach a wide range of subjects to learners across the globe. Their role requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and proficiency with technology.

How does an online instructor typically engage with students to ensure active participation and effective learning?

Online Instructors commonly use a combination of live video sessions, discussion forums, interactive assignments, and timely feedback to foster student engagement. They often set clear expectations for participation, create opportunities for peer collaboration, and utilize digital tools to monitor progress. While working remotely, Online Instructors must be proactive in communication and adapt their teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs. Consistent virtual office hours and regular check-ins also help build a supportive and interactive learning environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Online Instructor, you need strong subject matter expertise, pedagogical knowledge, and often a relevant teaching certification or degree. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and digital content creation platforms is commonly required. Standout soft skills include clear communication, adaptability, and the ability to engage and motivate remote learners. These capabilities are essential for delivering effective, interactive instruction and supporting student success in a virtual environment.

Can I earn money by teaching online?

Online instructors can earn income by teaching courses, tutoring, or providing coaching through various platforms. Earnings depend on factors such as subject expertise, experience, platform pay rates, and the number of students or sessions. Many online teaching roles offer flexible schedules and require skills in communication and digital tools.

How much do online instructors make?

Online instructors typically earn between $15 and $50 per hour, depending on their experience, subject expertise, and the platform they use. Salaries can vary widely, with some full-time roles offering annual salaries ranging from $30,000 to $80,000 or more, especially for those with advanced credentials or specialized skills.

What does an online instructor do?

An online instructor works with students over the internet rather than in a classroom. As an online instructor, your students complete your course via online means of instruction, including video conferencing software, instant messaging and online chat, web forums for the class, and email. You teach through video lectures, podcasts, articles, and interactive seminars. You have similar job duties to a classroom teacher. You must prepare and implement lesson plans, evaluate student work, and provide grades to recognize their learning and progress.

Job description

ABOUT US:

DivaDance is the #1 brand for pop-music inspired, choreography-based dance classes, live performance programs, video shoots, workshopsand parties - with franchises across the US and in Mexico. Joining our staff is an opportunity to change lives, empower others, and do what you love as we inspire confidence and build community in our inclusive, all-levels classes. We offer flexible working hours, professional development opportunities, leadership growth paths (including pathways to your own franchise ownership), and the exciting (and fun!) chance to be part of a growing, values-driven franchise organization.

THE GIG:

You're the Queen (or King!) Bee of every DivaDance class, teaching clients your original choreography to songs ranging from Bey to Biebs. Our classes are for all levels and follow a consistent DivaDance format. Our ideal candidate has a big personality, experience creating choreography and teaching adults, and is super responsive via phone/text. Flakes or last-minute excuse-makers need not apply! This is a great role for someone who wants to earn extra Venmo or manicure money while doing what they LOVE. You will be required to complete our online Instructor Development Program before teaching your first class. Investment in the DivaDance Instructor Development program is provided by the DivaDance Charlotte owner. A portion of this program cost will be shared with you in the amount of a $100 deposit. This deposit is required in order to start the online training. Note: This amount that will be returned to you after 3 months of teaching classes. The Instructor Development Program involves online training, welcome, warmup and cooldown, and choreography video submissions and our HQ Development Team will be there to support every step of the way.

To ensure the DivaDance class format is something you want to learn and teach, we require each applicant to take 3 DivaDance classes prior to beginning the Instructor Training Program. After your application is submitted, simply email the three classes from our schedule that you are interested in trying, and we will reserve your spot in each class for free.

HOURS, COMPENSATION, LOCATION:

We are looking for you to teach at least 1 (up to 2) classes per week - during the lunch hour, evenings or possibly on weekends. DivaDance brings our classes into existing facilities - we do not have our own physical location. We are seeking instructors who are able to teach at the ONE Dance Initiative dance studio in Fort Mill, SC at 821 Crossroads Plaza at 7:00PM on Tuesdays and/or every other Friday at 8:00PM (We can also alternate days scheduled). We might also request help teaching at our 3 other studio locations if the time and location of the studios are accessible for you. You should have reliable transportation to get there for classes, and expect to arrive 20 minutes early to prepare for clients arrival. We will accommodate vacation time and schedule adjustments as long as they are communicated up to 6 weeks in advance. Otherwise you are welcome to swap classes with DivaDance staff to cover classes if needed.

Compensation is tiered based on instruction experience and starts at $30 per class.

DivaDance Charlotte offers many performance opportunities in addition to our regularly scheduled classes. We seek instructors willing to choreograph routines for those performances and guide our performers through 5-7 rehearsals before the performance. Our performance choreographers are unable to perform with the performers and will serve as the coach.

DivaDance Charlotte Staff members are able to participate in our performance programs, video shoots and workshops that they are not scheduled to work. Staff members receive a 50% off discount on our Member pricing (already $15-$25 lower than the non-member amount) to reserve a spot in those programs. Additionally, staff members receive free classes to join any DivaDance class that they are not scheduled to work (a $119/month value).

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

You must have experience teaching and choreographing for adults. Bonus points for former dance team/drill team/cheerleaders. Our application process will require that you submit a video of your original choreography.

Applications without choreography links will not be considered.
