Job description

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER R2 DESCRIPTION Provide individualized instruction within a resource room II setting with students who have significant academic deficits in reading, writing, social skills, and/or math, with accompanying behavioral challenges and/or autism. Requires direct instruction in life skills, social skills, and academics according to Individual Education Plans, aligned district adopted curriculum and approved research-based intervention curriculums. Serve as a resource to general education staff to support students included in general education setting to the greatest extent possible. Teacher must be flexible and be able to collaborate well with others grounded in best practices. Teacher may have multiple paraeducators in the program. Teacher must use resources wisely with caseload and lead instructional planning for students. Must be familiar with Special Education laws, IEP development, and behavior management to insure students get what they need in the least restrictive environment. Experience in IEP writing on IEP Online software preferred. QUALIFICATIONS ? Washington State Certificate required with Special Education endorsement required. ? Previous successful classroom experience with students who have health impairment, learning disabilities, autism, and/or behavior disorders preferred. ? Strong team player, willingness to work hard, conscientious, organized, ability to relate well to students and staff. ? Ability to develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with other employees, parents, and students where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. ? Ability to collect meaningful data to drive instruction in a way that all students will have an opportunity to learn. ? Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and program. ? Experience providing an enthusiastic and positive learning climate that promotes appropriate behavior and successful learning. ? Implement District adopted curriculum from general education and approved research-based intervention curriculum when appropriate Individualized Education Plans require. ? Responding to stressful situations appropriately. ? Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality
