TCEQ Hydrologists support Texas Water Rights, Groundwater, Surface Water, and Water Supply programs. This role will collect hydrological data; analyze findings; and assist with data calculations and the development of recommendations for programs and/or projects to support effective water resource management and policy decisions.

NOTE: Please list all related software experience on your application. RiverWare experience is highly preferred.

This program aims to establish a pool of applicants suitable for filling TCEQ Hydrologist positions.

How does the Hydrologist Hiring Program work?

Hiring supervisors in the Austin Central Office, or any of TCEQ's sixteen regional offices, may request candidates with specific hydrology experience and geographic preferences from the Hydrologist Hiring pool. You may be connected to all open positions that match your experience. The hiring supervisor schedules interviews and makes a final selection.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Hydrologist I

A bachelor's degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or natural or physical science from an accredited college or university.

Hydrologist II*

A bachelor's degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time experience performing hydrologic work of similar character, scope, and complexity in the areas listed in examples of work performed.

Hydrologist III*

A bachelor's degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus four years of full-time experience performing hydrologic work of similar character, scope, and complexity in the areas listed in examples of work performed.

Hydrologist IV*

A bachelor's degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus six years of full-time experience performing hydrologic work of similar character, scope, and complexity in the areas listed in examples of work performed.

Hydrologist V*

A bachelor's degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus eight years of full-time experience performing hydrologic work of similar character, scope, and complexity in the areas listed in examples of work performed.

*A graduate degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or a natural or physical science from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

What if my transcripts are from an international university?

Applicants who hold an international degree should contact a foreign degree evaluation service to have their course work evaluated prior to submitting for a position with the TCEQ. The service must be a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or acceptable to the Texas State Board of Education Certification. A photocopy of the evaluation must be included with the job submission in order for it to be considered complete.
