JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Fire Science Facilitator coordinates and instructs Florida Firefighting Basic Recruit and Advanced Training Courses. Academy Facilitators, "facilitate" the State curriculum to Post Secondary Vocational certificate programs, such as, the fire and Law Enforcement academies.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepares, instructs and grades of class coursework.
  • Assigns final grades.
  • Serves as a liaison and resource to the fire service community and public-school systems of the service district.
  • Integrates computer software and technology-based instruction appropriately.
  • Maintains a safe and effective classroom environment.
  • Participates in department, division, and adjunct faculty meetings.
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Florida Certified Fire Fighter and Florida Instructor Certification 1, 2 or 3
  • Must be a public speaker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach up, stoop ability to participate in physical activities related to firefighting, the ability to lift an object of fifty (50) pounds or less, and carry items in excess of fifty (50) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate Firefighting equipment, standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. Indian River State College expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
