Job Description

The Brushfire Literature & Arts Journal is a student-run organization at UNR that publishes two journals per year (one per semester). All art reviewed and published by Brushfire issubmittedthrough our website.

With every new edition of the Brushfire, we strive torepresentthe diversity, originality, and dedication of our artistic community. As an ASUN organization, we also strive to be thecreative literary and visual work outlet for our student body at UNR.Our main priority is to connect with the various art communities at UNR and throughout Reno.However, anyone cansubmitto Brushfire. We receive and publish art from across the country.

In order toachieve our goals, staff and volunteers also collaborate with other campus clubs and organizations, to promote Brushfire's name and purpose, and toestablishgood relations with peer art organizations.

Collaboration is in Brushfire's nature. Much of the work done will be with the help of co-workers and volunteers. What is most important is the drive to work in a team and work for the goals of this organization.

Our editors handle all concerns with literary and art submissions, including but not limitedto:reviewing and editing submissions, communicating with submitters, and working alongside a volunteer judging panel. Editors will oversee all copyediting operations for the journal, which may include, but is not limitedto:copyediting all poetry, prose, and overseeing other volunteer copyeditors. On a final note, ourEditorposition will work with the Brushfire Executive Editor and fellow editors to make any last edits to thefinal proofof the journal.

All staff membersare required toattend weekly meetings in which progress updates,announcementsand challenges will be discussed.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing literature and artsubmissions, as well ascontacting authors/artistsregardingtheir submissions

  • Copyediting all prose, poetry, and written content selected for journal publication

  • Working withother editorsto revise and send off final journal proof

  • Attending weekly staff meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a studentofthe University of Nevada, Reno.

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled

  • Effective communication skills

  • Organizational skills

  • Group Management skills

  • Experience and/or knowledge in respective field of art

  • A good understanding of the mechanics of the English language
