Job Description:
The School of Renewable Natural Resources (SRNR) at Louisiana State University (LSU) is hiring a 9-month instructor position in natural resource ecology.
SRNR seeks to advance a faculty with broad and complementary skills, experience, and interests. SRNR faculty have wide-ranging interests in natural resource ecology and management and have benefited from various levels of collaboration. Successful applicants will have a strong teaching background
Louisiana State University, located on the banks of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (USA), is the state's flagship institution and most comprehensive university. Founded in 1853, LSU currently has an enrollment of 28,764 undergraduate and 4,755 graduate students in 235 academic fields of study. LSU is an R1 research institute with land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant designations and a world-class faculty that contributes to research, education, and service at an international level.
The School of Renewable Natural Resources in the LSU AgCenter focuses on natural resource research, education, and service in conservation biology, fisheries, forestry, wetlands, and wildlife, with a faculty that studies a wide range of topics and species both nationally and internationally. SRNR consists of approximately 25 faculty members, 280 undergraduate students, and 50 graduate students. SRNR has B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in Natural Resources Ecology and Management with nine areas of concentration, including six accredited by the Society of American Foresters.
This position is a nine-month academic faculty position in the SRNR in the LSU College of Agriculture. This is a non-tenure-track appointment for a faculty position to teach undergraduate courses, serve as an undergraduate advisor, and play a significant role in RNR recruiting and retention efforts, including on- and off-campus, night, and weekend events. Course responsibilities may include introductory undergraduate natural resources and ecology courses for majors and non-majors, and the assumption or development of courses related to the applicant's area of expertise. Summer salary possibilities exist for additional summer teaching.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
75% Instruction
  • Teach introductory undergraduate natural resource and ecology courses to majors and non-majors.
  • Teach the equivalent of (6) courses per year, typically three (3) per semester.
  • Develop and teach online course sections.

25% Advising and Recruiting
  • Academically advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Mentor undergraduate research projects
  • Attend and lead recruiting events, develop promotional materials
  • Support undergraduate program assessment
  • Perform other duties as needed by the School.

Minimum Qualifications:M.S. degree or equivalent in Wildlife, Fisheries, Ecology, Forestry, Biological Sciences, Botany, or related area; must have knowledge in natural resource ecology, wildlife and fisheries management, and area of specialization.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D.degree with teaching and advising experience preferred.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter benefits package provides a wide variety of benefit options. Benefits offered include retirement, choice of multiple medical insurance plans, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), a tax saving plan for some child care and medical expenses, university holidays, annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, an Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on the job category, percent effort, and length of employment.
Special Requirements: Physical ability to sit or stand in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) multiple times per week and conduct field laboratories in challenging terrain; additional duties may be incorporated into this position depending on the duties, skills, and experience of the individual selected.
