LOCATION: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio
DEPARTMENT: United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Academic Development Branch (EDED)

SUMMARY:
This position supports the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) by providing instructional design expertise for the development and enhancement of classroom, online, and multimedia training programs. The Instructional Systems Designer works collaboratively with subject matter experts and project teams to create engaging, high-quality learning solutions that support the organization's educational mission. Responsibilities include curriculum development, e-learning design, course evaluation, multimedia integration, and continuous improvement of instructional materials while adhering to established instructional design best practices and applicable customer requirements.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) to develop engaging and effective learning solutions for healthcare and aerospace education programs. In this role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts, project managers, and multimedia professionals to design, develop, implement, and evaluate instructor-led and online training.
The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and passionate about adult learning, with experience developing instructional content using modern e-learning technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education, or a related field; or five (5) years of professional instructional design experience.
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas:
    • Adult learning or learning theory
    • Instructional design methodologies
    • Educational assessment and evaluation
    • Development of instructional materials
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional digital design experience
  • Experience developing online learning using authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or similar software.
  • Knowledge of SCORM standards and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while working independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience with multimedia development, simulations, virtual reality, gaming, or 3D learning environments.
  • Experience working in healthcare, military, government, or technical training environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop, and maintain instructor-led and online training programs.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to transform technical information into engaging learning experiences.
  • Apply instructional design principles and the ADDIE methodology throughout the course development process.
  • Create instructional materials including presentations, participant guides, facilitator guides, job aids, scripts, assessments, and other learning resources.
  • Develop storyboards and recommend the most effective delivery methods and learning technologies.
  • Build, test, and maintain e-learning courses, including SCORM-compliant content.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through learner feedback, testing, and course evaluations, and recommend improvements.
  • Edit and proofread instructional materials for accuracy, grammar, formatting, and consistency.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and provide updates on assigned projects.
  • Support additional instructional design and curriculum development initiatives as assigned.

Security Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must successfully pass a Tier 1 (T1) Background Investigation (SF-85) and meet all government security and installation access requirements.
  • Must comply with Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Air Force security, operational security (OPSEC), and confidentiality requirements.
  • Must be able to safeguard sensitive and proprietary information throughout the performance of assigned duties.

Work Requirements
  • Standard Monday through Friday schedule (40 hours per week).
  • Occasional schedule flexibility may be required to support project deadlines.
  • Position may require work at a designated government or customer location or an approved alternate worksite.

  • Comply with all organizational, customer, security, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Maintain professional communication and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
