What Does an Online Bookkeeper Do?

Online bookkeepers are responsible for some or all of the financial accounts for their employer. They may work as an individual or within a department to manage all accounts payable and accounts receivable within the organization, depending on the size and needs of the company. Instead of working in the office, an online bookkeeper works remotely from home or a location of their choice with an internet connection. They may work on the staff at the company or they may be self-employed. Their job duties are to record all transactions, post debits and credits into a general ledger, and produce financial statements and other reports for the management of the company. An online bookkeeper also spends time reconciling reports and checking for accuracy.

Is AI replacing bookkeepers?

AI is automating certain tasks in bookkeeping, such as data entry and reconciliation, but it does not fully replace the role of online bookkeepers. Bookkeepers still need to interpret financial data, ensure accuracy, and provide insights, which require human judgment and expertise. Many bookkeepers now use AI tools to increase efficiency and focus on more complex financial analysis and client communication.
