Job Description Summary
Weatherford College occasionally has openings for adjunct instructors. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for this continuous recruitment adjunct faculty position within the department. Applying for an adjunct appointment would add the applicant to a pool which is available to the departmental search committee for consideration in case a need arises for the academic year. When an opening occurs, the hiring manager will draw from the pool of applicants on an as needed basis. Should review of your qualifications result in a decision to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted.
Primary duties of adjunct faculty include teaching courses in the approved discipline, providing instruction to facilitate student acquisition of the specific learning outcomes identified for the assigned courses, as well as mentoring students inside and outside of the classroom.
The adjunct faculty member creates and maintains an effective learning environment in the modalities of the courses assigned. Teaching modalities may be face-to-face, hybrid, online/Zoom, or within the context of dual credit instruction. Hours vary, depending on the need and course schedule, and may include day, evening, and/or weekend instruction.
All faculty members are expected to maintain familiarity with and adhere to College policies and procedures.
As an Online Adjunct Faculty member in Healthcare Finance, you will deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate students in a virtual learning environment. Responsibilities include developing and facilitating engaging course content, assessing student progress, and providing timely feedback. You will guide students in applying financial principles to real-world healthcare settings, covering topics such as budgeting, financial analysis, reimbursement systems, and fiscal management within healthcare organizations.
Required Education
All faculty members must provide minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) credential standards which normally include an earned Master's degree in the teaching discipline or a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in the teaching discipline. Transcripts, certificates, and/or license must be submitted with application.
Required Experience
Educational Background:
  • A Doctorate degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field is typically required.

Professional Experience:
  • Significant experience (usually 3-5 years) in healthcare finance or a related area, such as healthcare administration, financial management, or accounting within healthcare organizations.

Teaching Experience:
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education, particularly in healthcare finance or related subjects. Online teaching experience is often specifically required.

Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS):
  • Experience using online education platforms such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle for course delivery, assessment, and student engagement.

Communication Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively delivering course content and engaging with students in an online environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain ethical and professional behavior. Be available to students by appointment. Attend adjunct faculty meetings. Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels. Complete any required training. Other related duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Healthcare Finance Fundamentals
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Understanding of how healthcare organizations create budgets, project financial performance, and manage variances.
  • Financial Reporting: Knowledge of how financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) are prepared, analyzed, and interpreted in a healthcare context.
  • Cost Accounting: Familiarity with methods for tracking, analyzing, and allocating healthcare costs, including fixed vs. variable costs, direct vs. indirect costs, and activity-based costing.
