Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Lead Locksmith maintains lock and access systems, completes work requests, programs electronic locks, develops locking plans, coordinates lock shop activities, supports campus projects, provides work direction and training, maintains inventory, purchases supplies, and responds to emergencies.
  • Designs, sets-up and maintains the lock shop, which is responsible for repair, maintenance, installation and issuance of hardware and cutting of keys.
  • Makes procedural decisions and uses independent judgment to maintain security and safety through proper building or room access.
  • Consults with independent contractors, administrators, project managers, and engineers on new construction and projects.
  • Maintains the management of all locking plans within Integra Access and One Card systems.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies related to lock management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience as a journey-level locksmith that included lead work coordination responsibilities and training in master key systems.
  • Combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a locksmith's apprenticeship program.
  • License or certification as a locksmith.
  • Possession of a valid CA Driver's License is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of master locking systems, institutional hardware, and electronic access control systems.
  • Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace locks and related hardware.
  • Ability to maintain computerized inventory and master locking system records.
  • Skill in programming and maintaining electronic access systems, including Onity Integra Access and One Card.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment while maintaining facility security and safety.
  • Ability to provide effective work direction and training on lock and locking-system procedures.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate the duties of the position.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: 6643 / Lead Locksmith / Grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $5998 - $7168 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5998 - $8737 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday (7 am-3:30 pm); may include evenings and weekends.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
