The Tax Operations Analyst role encompasses a combination of accounting, compliance, corporate finance, tax and risk management functions, and involves tax documentation, withholding and reporting, operational process improvements and technology product management
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily tax withholding analysis, general ledger management, and reconciliation, including Backup, FATCA, and NRA.
  • Tax form validation including W-9/W-8 forms, as well as other supporting documents.
  • Maintenance of reporting obligations, submission deadlines, and tax compliance requirements.
  • Communicate with account representatives to resolve withholding and/or reporting issues.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects, issue resolution, technology enhancements, and other deliverables as needed.
  • Perform review of exception reports and perform periodic checks to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, as well as other established risk and control framework

Required Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in corporate/commercial tax, preferably within financial services or banking.
  • Experience with IRS information reporting requirements, including Forms 1099 and 1042-S.

Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Understanding of core Tax Operations concepts; Documentation (W-8/W-9), Withholding (Backup/FATCA/NRA), Reporting (1099/1042-S), Filing Returns (1042).
  • Strong understanding of the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and rules/regulations within a banking environment.
  • Proficiency with Tax software (e.g. Broadridge, ADP, IMPACT, Markit CTI/S&P MD3.
  • Experience using business software (e.g. JIRA, Microsoft Project, Ariba, Tableau, SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of withholding rules for U.S. persons and non-U.S. persons, including NRA withholding and FATCA classification.
  • Familiarity with IRS TIN Matching, backup withholding, and due diligence requirements (e.g., W-9, W-8 series documentation).
  • Understanding financial products and associated tax implications (interest, dividends, original issue discount, broker transactions).
  • Strong data reconciliation, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (large datasets, pivot tables, data validation).
  • Experience with tax withholding and/or reporting or banking systems a plus (e.g., FIS, Fiserv, Broadridge, Sovos, OneSource, or similar platforms).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in large financial institutions or global banking environments.
  • Familiarity with FATCA/NRA withholding frameworks.
  • Experience supporting audits, regulatory exams, or internal control testing.
  • Exposure to process automation, data governance, or regulatory reporting transformation initiatives.
  • Familiar with either the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, or Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certificate program as it relates to project management. Not required, but considered a plus

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Tax, or related discipline.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $70K - $97K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
