Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC, headquartered in Dallas, is a regulated electricity transmission and distribution business that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable electricity delivery to consumers. Oncor (together with its subsidiaries) operates the largest transmission and distribution system in Texas, delivering power to nearly 4 million homes and businesses and operating more than 145,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines in Texas.

Summary

As an Apprentice, you will perform construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines and structures in accordance with Oncor’s construction standards manuals.  All tasks are carried out under the direction of others and with the approval of the supervising authority.  Work involves conductors and equipment energized at distribution voltages, utilizing approved protective equipment and tools.  

This on-site position will have an assigned service territory within our Oncor Electric Delivery Company market and be based out of our Stanton Service Center.

Attributes and Responsibilities

  • Available to be on-call in the scheduled rotation, available for overtime work, and 24-hour call-out is required.
  • Willing to travel outside your assigned district when needed is required.
  • Able to work off wood poles, insulated platforms, and bucket trucks using approved safety practices and rules is required.
  • Able to lift 75 pounds above his/her head on a regular basis is required. 
  • Successful candidate will be expected to live within 60 minutes of the service center with 30 minutes or less preferred.
  • Expected to comply with the Code of Conduct at all times and shall participate in the local safety programs.
  • Committed to the Oncor’s Core Values and to learning and abiding by Oncor’s Safety Handbook.

Skills

  • Basic computer skills with software such as, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Outlook.
  • Effective communication skills needed to perform in a team environment.
  • Precise and strategic when climbing wooden poles.

Education and Experience

  • Class A CDL driver's license is required.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • 4 plus years of related distribution utility construction work experience is encouraged to apply.
  • Certificate or degree from an accredited lineman school is encouraged to apply. 
  • Associate's degree in electrical technology or related field is encouraged to apply. 
  • Able to provide proof of successful lineman and safety training programs. 
  • Successful candidate must demonstrate the skills needed to advance in the Oncor Lineman Training Program within a reasonable time frame commensurate with proven work experience and abilities.
