Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Side Dump Driver to transport materials to and from construction sites. The Side Dump Driver will be responsible for operating a side dump truck, loading and unloading materials, and ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations. This role requires excellent driving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering materials safely and efficiently.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Side Dump Driver typically does not have supervisory responsibilities. However, they may be required to provide guidance and support to new hires or less experienced drivers.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a side dump truck to transport materials, such as gravel, sand, and soil, to and from construction sites.
  • Load and unload materials using the side dump mechanism, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement of the load.
  • Inspect the truck and trailer before and after each shift to ensure that all systems are in good working order and that the load is properly secured.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others, including the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to traffic laws.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, site supervisors, and other team members to coordinate delivery schedules and address any issues or concerns.
  • Complete required paperwork, such as delivery tickets and logbooks, accurately and on time.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the truck and trailer, both inside and out.
  • Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to maintenance personnel or supervisors promptly.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulations governing transportation and delivery operations.


Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating a side dump truck.
  • Clean driving record with no serious violations or accidents.
  • Excellent driving skills, including the ability to maneuver a large vehicle safely in various weather and road conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
  • Physical strength and stamina to load and unload materials manually if required.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and customers.
  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles.

Education Requirements:

Basic: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Completion of a commercial truck driving program or equivalent experience.

Preferred: Additional training or certification in defensive driving, hazardous materials handling, or other relevant areas.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to). The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery is required. This job also requires full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is usually done outdoors and sometimes at a client facility or job site and is frequently performed in inclement and/or extreme weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to electricity, moving mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, and hazardous materials. This position regularly requires long work hours and frequent weekend work.
