What is an on call traffic control flagger?

On Call Traffic Control Flaggers are professionals responsible for directing and managing the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction sites, roadwork, or emergency situations on a flexible, as-needed basis. They use signs, signals, and hand gestures to ensure safety for workers, drivers, and pedestrians. On call flaggers must be ready to work at varying hours, often with little notice, depending on the needs of the employer or project. Their role is crucial in preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with local traffic regulations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an on call traffic control flagger?

To thrive as an On Call Traffic Control Flagger, you need knowledge of traffic safety regulations, situational awareness, and typically a flagger certification obtained through a recognized training program. Familiarity with hand-held stop/slow paddles, high-visibility safety gear, and two-way radios is essential for daily operations. Strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to stay calm under pressure set outstanding flaggers apart. These skills are crucial to ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians while maintaining efficient traffic flow at work sites.

How to get hired as an on call traffic control flagger?
