Job Summary
The Funeral Director provides professional, compassionate, and dignified service to families by coordinating and directing all aspects of funeral, burial, and cremation services. This position serves as a pillar of support and guidance for grieving families while managing operational details with integrity and efficiency. During arrangement conferences, the Funeral Director should emphasize how personalized services and additional options can meaningfully enhance the memorial experience.
Key Responsibilities
· • Prepare and file legal documents such as death certificates, burial permits, and cremation authorizations
· • Coordinate care, handling, and preparation of the deceased
· • Meet with families to discuss service arrangements, including obituary details, personalization, and merchandise selection
· • Plan, schedule, and oversee all elements of funeral, memorial, and graveside services
· • Coordinate with clergy, celebrants, cemeteries, and external vendors
· • Arrange floral deliveries and manage service logistics
· • Educate families on service options, merchandise, and memorial personalization
· • Lead funeral processions and ensure quality of service delivery
· • Assist families with insurance claims, VA benefits, and Social Security notifications
· • Offer grief support resources or refer to licensed counselors when appropriate
· • Maintain case files, inventory, and billing documentation
· • Ensure cleanliness and presentation of all facilities, vehicles, and equipment
· • Coordinate with pallbearers or honorary escorts when applicable
· • Represent the funeral home at community events and outreach efforts
· • Remain on call as scheduled to respond to immediate needs
· • Perform other duties as assigned
