Job description

Cloud Services Network Engineer

The Cloud Services Network Engineer supports the Thrive Cloud platform through a combination of project-based work and operational support activities. Reporting to the Director of Cloud Networking, this role is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining network services across Thrive Datacenters. The position also includes client-facing consulting for non-standard network configurations and complex requirements.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering and administration
  • Experience working in datacenter environments
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain regional Thrive Cloud networks and internal networking infrastructure as part of the Network Engineering team
  • Assume lead responsibility for network engineering activities during the Network Manager's absence
  • Evaluate and deploy customized networking and security solutions aligned with internal and customer business requirements
  • Provide on-call network support on a rotating basis and respond to escalated network issues
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams (Visio), high-level and low-level designs, user guides, and knowledge base articles
  • Travel to datacentres throughout the USA as required

Required Technical Competencies:

Core Networking Knowledge:

  • Multi-tenant infrastructure architectures: Fortinet VDOMs, Cisco multi-context firewalls
  • Network protocols and services: TCP/IPv4, UDP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, SPAN/RSPAN, SNMPv3
  • Switching technologies: ARP, PVST, RSTP, MST, LACP, HSRP/VRRP, vPC
  • Routing protocols and applications: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IP SLA
  • Route redistribution, filtering, provider-independent addressing

Specialized Network Services:

  • Site-to-site VPN technologies: IPSec, GRE, DMVPN
  • Next-generation firewall deployment and management: URL/application filtering, antivirus, IPS, SSL decryption
  • WAN connectivity solutions including internet and point-to-point circuits
  • Network availability and performance monitoring tools: SolarWinds, PRTG, Nable

Equipment and Infrastructure Experience:

  • Firewall platforms: Fortinet, Meraki, Palo Alto, Cisco
  • Routing platforms: Cisco ISR, ASR and Catalyst 8500 series
  • Switching platforms: Cisco Nexus (3000, 9000 series) and Catalyst Access Switches (3750, 3850, 9300)
  • Datacenter operations: hardware installation, cabling, cross-connect coordination, and SmartHands support
  • Virtualization and storage: VMware hosts and SAN environments
  • Disaster recovery testing and procedures

Soft Skills:

  • Meticulous attention to detail

Base Salary Range: $100K-140K Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and location, and applicable employment laws.
