Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Outpatient Cardiology Clinic provides specialized nursing care for cardiology patients preparing for or recovering from interventional procedures such as cardiac catheterization, PCI/stent placement, EP procedures, and other vascular interventions. The role involves patient assessment, symptom evaluation, medication management, and early identification of complications. Effective communication, patient education, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team are essential to ensure quality care within a fast-paced outpatient cardiology setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and monitor vital signs and patient health questionnaires, including history and allergies.
  • Interpret arrhythmias and recognize cardiac emergencies, including performing CPR and AED use.
  • Assess and manage patients with chest pain, hypertension, and other cardiovascular conditions.
  • Administer oxygen therapy as needed and monitor pulmonary status.
  • Perform telephone triage to assess patient needs and escalate urgent concerns promptly.
  • Provide patient education focused on lifestyle modifications and medication adherence.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team on quality improvement initiatives and patient care planning.
  • Utilize EPIC electronic health records for accurate and timely documentation.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience in an outpatient cardiology clinic and triage setting.
  • Proficiency in arrhythmia interpretation and cardiac emergency response including CPR and AED use.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills, especially in cardiovascular and pulmonary care.
  • Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and infection control.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with interventional cardiology procedures and post-procedure care.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement processes in healthcare settings.
  • Additional certifications related to cardiovascular nursing or emergency care.
Special Considerations:
  • No weekend or on-call requirements.
  • Role is not required to float between units.
  • Patient population may include medically complex individuals requiring careful monitoring for complications such as bleeding, unstable vitals, or vascular access issues.
  • Strict adherence to escalation protocols for urgent cardiac symptoms.
Scheduling:
  • 32-week contract position.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, five 8-hour shifts per week.
  • Start date: September 7, 2026; End date: April 16, 2027.
