Job description

Description ****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Position Title: Casual Hire - First Aid Station Responder Hiring Unit: UHM Athletics Location: Lower Campus Athletic Facilities Date Posted: July 11, 2025 Closing Date: Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met. Minimum Starting Pay: $25.00/hour (no night differential or overtime pay). Pay commensurate with experience and certification

Work Schedule: Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedule will very depending on events scheduled at the University of Hawaii Athletic venues. Other Conditions: Maximum hours allowed per week is 19.75

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the First Aid Station at assigned facility at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Athletics Department Makai Campus. Facilities include Stan Sheriff Center, Les Murakami Stadium, T.C. Ching Complex, Wahine Softball Stadium and other athletic facilities

Performs timely basic life support services in the event that there is a medical emergency at various athletic and special events. Duties to include but are not limited toz: Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and administer use of AED as needed; Provides emergency medical care of simple and multiple system trauma such as: controlling hemorrhage, bandaging wounds, and manually stabilizing injured extremities. Provides emergency medical care to but not limited to: Manages general medical complaints, seizures, environmental emergencies, behavioral emergencies and psychological crises.

Searches for medical identification emblems as a guide to appropriate emergency medical care. Reassures patients and bystanders by working in a confident and efficient manner. Avoids mishandling and undue haste while working expeditiously to accomplish the task.

Calls 911. Prepares a clear and concise report of accident/injury/incident that required first aid and submitting it to the Facilities Manager in charge by conclusion of event. Maintains cleanliness and appearance of the First Aid station and maintain appropriate inventory of first aid supplies ensuring required supplies are properly stocked.

Carries two way radio at all times while on duty. Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies. Demonstrates a positive and professional working attitude and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the coaching staff, support staff, administrators in the UH Athletics Department and other individuals associated with the Athletics Department.

Knows, recognizes, and complies with laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated Conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others have occurred or will occur. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Current State of Hawai'i Licensed Registered Nurse, or State of Hawai'i Licensed Practical Nurse, or State of Hawai'i Licensed Emergency Medical Technician Proof of a current CPR/AED Certification Must be able to work weekday, weekends, holidays and nights when needed as many events are scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ability to communicate clearly and calmly with individuals in distress. Ability to make quick decisions and prioritizing tasks in a dynamic and sometimes stressful environment.

Ability to perform tasks that may require bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Ability to maintain composure and focus in high-pressure situations. Ability to collaborate effectively with other responders and medical professionals.
